September 8, 2020: Macedonian American Day

WHEREAS, the state of Michigan recognizes its Macedonian American constituents who reside in several communities throughout the Great Lakes State; and,


WHEREAS, Macedonian Michiganders make valuable contributions to a number of areas, including business, law, medicine, education, technology, government, military service, sports, and culture; and,


WHEREAS, Macedonians work to protect, preserve, and celebrate their distinct history, culture, and language, and raise their families with strong work ethics while  encouraging their children to follow their dreams ; and,


WHEREAS, subsequently, many Macedonians have grown up to be distinguished leaders and compassionate public servants who add tremendous value to society; and,


WHEREAS, Michigan benefits from our hard working, passionate, and intelligent Macedonian-American community members who, over several generations, have taken risks, chartered new frontiers, and opened businesses in a wide array of sectors including sports, retail, food and drink, financial, construction, health services, and textiles; and,


WHEREAS, the Macedonian community is proof that Michigan is a home for opportunity for those that wish to own and operate a business; and,


WHEREAS, the Macedonian Americans in Michigan own small businesses that collectively employ thousands of Michigan residents and serve as the backbone of Michigan’s economy and the path to financial freedom;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim September 8, 2020, as Macedonian American Day in Michigan.
