Diversity and Equity in the Education Workforce Grant

As a continuation of Michigan's efforts to grow and diversify the educator workforce, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is launching the Diversity and Equity in the Education Workforce initiative with a competitive planning grant. MDE recognizes the research that supports the utility of having a diverse educator workforce, and its impact on academic outcomes as well as the social-emotional development of young people across the state.

This planning grant is a part of our broader commitment to engaging educators across the state as we aim to offer young people the most diverse and equitable education experience. Intermediate School Districts and Regional Educational Service Agencies are invited to apply for this grant funding to support efforts embodying best practices to ensure a diverse workforce is part of the educational ecosystem in their learning communities.

This grant will support Intermediate School Districts or Regional Educational Service Agencies in their planning efforts to create a Community of Practice focused on supporting and retaining a diverse teacher workforce.

Through the development of a Community of Practice, the grant awardee will cultivate:

  • Resources and materials designed to support and retain a diverse professional workforce.
