LANSING - The Michigan Department of Education is pleased to announce the release of the latest #proudMIeducator video, featuring educators from Mt. Pleasant Public Schools who are hosting Central Michigan University (CMU) future teachers in their classrooms. This is the 27th video to be released since the series began in fall 2016.
The video can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/eHYRi0QqRgM
"It is important for us to continue highlighting the passion of current educators, as well as future proud Michigan educators, and underscore the exceptional career of teaching," said State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice. "Educators deserve to know that we support and appreciate their work. Mentoring future educators is an important way to honor their expertise and share their knowledge and excitement with new educators on how they can help improve children's lives through teaching."
This video features Dr. Paula Lancaster, dean of the College of Education and Human Services at CMU; Ashton Wirgau, teacher candidate at CMU; Alexia Torres, Mt. Pleasant High School teacher and Ashton's supervising teacher; Lauren Lewallen, teacher candidate at CMU; and Kaylee VanderBaan, a teacher at Mt. Pleasant Middle School and Lauren's supervising teacher.
Increasing the number of certified teachers, especially in areas of shortage, is one of the eight goals of Michigan's strategic education plan.
Since 2016, the #proudMIeducator series has featured educators and supporters of Michigan educators who share their passion for education. The full playlist can be found on the MDE YouTube Page, www.YouTube.com/MichDeptEd.
