Michigan’s Great Lakes account for 20% of the total surface freshwater in the world and their aesthetic, environmental, and commercial significance are invaluable to the state and the nation. Michigan agriculture takes the stewardship of these magnificent waters seriously. The State of Michigan CREP program has selected three critical watersheds that have intense agricultural land use to improve water quality, sources of drinking water, and wildlife habitats. This program will reduce sediment, phosphorus, and nitrogen into the surface water supply and improve habitat for fish, and nesting for upland birds, mammals, and waterfowl.

Michigan will target 80,000 acres to improve water quality and wildlife habitat by implementing the Conservation Practices.
