Estimates show that within the next 35 years, the world will need twice as much food to sustain a growing world population. The U.S. currently imports more than 90 percent of the seafood consumed in America. This offers a considerable opportunity for domestically raised fish. Michigan's abundant water resources and diverse agricultural base make our state uniquely positioned to capitalize on this opportunity and meet the protein needs of the world. The State of Michigan and the aquaculture industry are working together to grow Michigan's current industry into a major part of Michigan's agriculture sector.
