Ethnic Crafts in Michigan

DIVERSE PEOPLE, DIVERSE CRAFTS

Michigan is home to people with ancestral roots all over the globe. Culturally-based problems-solving methods often appear in the form of craft. Craft provides a combination of technology and artistry that meets a need, while fitting a cultural aesthetic. Layers of fabric and batting can keep the sleeper warm at night, but a quilt also delights the eye, while adding more warmth through the addition of colorful bits of decorative fabrics. Grasses can be woven together to gather a load, or sift grain, but an expertly woven basket from the proper materials is durable, beautiful and designed to achieve its purpose optimally. Enjoy the Library of Michigan's collection of books on ethnic crafts in our state.
