  • 2019 Michigan's AmeriCorps Member Celebration

    More than 600 Michigan's AmeriCorps State, VISTA, and National members will come together in Lansing on November 14, 2019 for a day of training, networking, and recognition. The event, hosted by the Michigan Community Service Commission, will help prepare AmeriCorps members for their year of service and celebrate the courage of their commitment.

  • Funds Available For New and Recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps Programs

    Federal funds are available to support new and recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps programs to start in the fall of 2020 for a 12-month program cycle.

  • AmeriCorps members Michigan's AmeriCorps Member of the Month

    JUNE 2020: Laurie Lane recently wrapped up her second year of service and Morgan Painter recently wrapped up her first year of service with the Michigan Education Corps (MEC) Reading Corps program. Laurie served as Lead K-3 Literacy Interventionist at Charles Wright Academy in Detroit, MI. Morgan served as K-3 Literacy Interventionist at Lakeview Elementary School in Lakeview, MI.

  • MI AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month - June 2020: Kelly McClelland, FoodCorps Michigan's AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month

    JUNE 2020: Although still a young professional, Kelly McClelland has proven herself to be an effective and empathetic food systems leader in the city of Flint, where she has served in various capacities since 2017. Currently, Kelly is the Nutrition Program Manager with the Crim Fitness Foundation and her responsibilities include supervising four FoodCorps AmeriCorps members assigned to Flint Community Schools.

    JUNE 2020: Great leaders help their team members develop and grow, set high expectations, and provide the training and support needed to ensure the team can reach its goals. As the Program Director for the Attendance Coaches AmeriCorps program, Meaghan Gorski demonstrates these leadership skills while guiding her AmeriCorps members who serve throughout the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) as they address the issue of chronic absenteeism.

  • MI AmeriCorps Alum Spotlight - May 2020, Darrin Adams - AmeriCorps Urban Safety, AMUS Michigan's AmeriCorps Alum Spotlight

    MAY 2020: Darrin Adams passed away on April 2 due to COVID-19. Darrin served two terms with the AmeriCorps Urban Safety (AMUS) Program in 2013-14, after an initial service term with the Vanguard Community Development Corporation. A returning citizen, Darrin made a difference in his community, and in doing so forged a new path forward for himself.
