WHEREAS, last year more than 69,000 residents throughout Michigan experienced homelessness; and,
WHEREAS, the number of families that are affected by homelessness or are at risk of having inadequate or unstable housing continues to be a significant community issue; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan has designated a week to bring attention to the needs of individuals and families who are homeless and to recognize the efforts being made to address these needs; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and supporters of Michigan’s Campaign to End Homelessness are some of the many dedicated organizations in this state whose efforts continue to make a difference in the lives of many homeless residents in our communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 12-20, 2016 as Homelessness Awareness Week in Michigan.
