The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Materials Management Division (MMD), hereby gives notice that it proposes to issue a hazardous waste management facility operating license major modification to Wayne Disposal, Inc. (WDI).  A request to revise the design of the landfill liner system for the next phase of construction (Master Cell VI G Phase 2) at the facility was submitted by WDI on May 3, 2018, pursuant to Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended (NREPA).

The request by WDI was to modify the design of the landfill liner system to incorporate the use of geosynthetic clay liners into the liner system at the WDI facility located at 49350 North I-94 Service Drive in Belleville, Michigan.

EGLE has reviewed the request and determined that the proposed design modification is acceptable and would comply with Part 111 of the NREPA, and the rules promulgated thereunder.

EGLE invites public comment on the proposed major modification. The public comment period begins June 14, 2018, and ends August 13, 2018.  The DEQ will hold a public hearing on July 19, 2018, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom of the Van Buren Township Hall.
