Department of Natural Resources
Learn backpacking basics with an overview of necessary gear, what to wear, how to pack, meal planning, safety and backcountry ethics in this preparatory class. We will set up a tent, use a single-burner stove and filter water outdoors. This workshop will be held outdoors under the pavilion.
For ages 16 and older. Participation is limited to 20.
Cost is $15 per person.
To register for this class, go to Michigan.gov/DNRLicenses and click on the "Purchase a license" button. Sign in (using either a username and password or your ID and birthdate), and find the class under the Outdoor Skills Academy tab.

Participants, employees and volunteers will be required to wear face coverings and will make every effort to maintain at least 6 feet separation throughout the class. Additional COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.
A Recreation Passport is required for entry into Waterloo Recreation Area.
