Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
WHEREAS, Day of Racial Healing invites countries, states, communities, and individuals to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of relationship building, peace, and universal healing among all nations and people; and,
WHEREAS, we should come together to celebrate our common humanity and build relationships where we work together and move forward together; and,
WHEREAS, we should strive to embrace our neighbors and work together to solve the many issues facing the state and this nation; and,
WHEREAS, any differences in race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or nationality should not be seen as pillars that divide us, but rather as building blocks upon which we can all construct a stronger state and nation together; and,
WHEREAS, we join many local and state governments and organizations across the nation in recognizing the National Day of Racial Healing;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim January, 22, 2019 as a Day of Racial Healing in Michigan.
