Unit 4: Marriage/Parenting Realities

Goal: To understand legal responsibility, custody and parenting arrangements, and the realities of marriage and parenting.

Parenting involves a lot of responsibility, especially when parents are not married. Parents who are unmarried, separated or divorced should arrange parenting time with their child so they share parenting responsibilities.

A stable marriage provides a good environment for raising children. However, becoming a parent and/or marrying at too young of an age can be challenging. It is generally better to be older and/or married before having children.

This unit consists of the following sections:

  • What Makes a Parent Responsible?

  • Custody and Parenting Arrangements.

  • Marriage Realities.

  • It's About Timing.

  • Advantages to Being Older and/or Married Before Having Children.
