Forensic science serves an important role in Michigan’s criminal justice system. The results of forensic testing may

  • assist in the investigation of a crime
  • be used in criminal proceedings
  • eliminate a person from suspicion.

The Forensic Science Division operates seven regional forensic laboratories which provide forensic services to law enforcement agencies and fire investigation units.

Our scientists have expertise in 11 forensic specialties and analyze a wide range of physical evidence in criminal investigations.
