State officials continue to work closely with local emergency management personnel to evaluate the aftermath of widespread flooding in Isabella and Midland counties following severe weather and intense rain on Thursday, June 22.
Impacted citizens and business owners are encouraged to report personal property damage using the phone numbers listed below. Do not call 911 to report flood damage:

- Midland County – 989-837-3500
Flood recovery guidance is also available by calling 211.
“Our local partners are collecting and compiling this crucial information,” said Capt. Chris A. Kelenske, Deputy Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and commander of the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD). “Localized damage assessment is the first step for any potential assistance after a disaster.”
To assist with insurance claims, individuals should take an inventory of valuables and belongings, including taking photographs or a video. Vehicle owners should report any damages to their auto insurance company.
Timeline of Events
Thursday, June 22
Excessive rainfall, up to eight inches in less than 12 hours, affected multiples counties in mid-Michigan, most heavily impacting Isabella and Midland counties. The Tittabawassee River in Midland and the Chippewa River in Mt. Pleasant substantially exceeded their flood stages.
Friday, June 23
Isabella and Midland counties declared a “local state of emergency,” which activates local emergency response and recovery plans.
The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) was activated.
Lt. Gov. Brian Calley declared a “state of disaster” for Isabella and Midland counties. By declaring a "state of disaster," the state of Michigan makes available all state resources in cooperation with local response and recovery efforts in the disaster area as outlined in the Michigan Emergency Management Plan. The
declaration authorizes the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division (MSP/EMHSD) to coordinate state efforts.

Saturday, June 24
An additional inch of rain caused repeat flooding where waters had previously receded.
Sunday, June 25
State agencies continued to work with local partners to identify potential resources needed.
Monday, June 26
Gov. Rick Snyder toured damaged areas with state officials.
Residents are reminded to continue using extreme caution dealing with electrical matters. Never touch a fallen power line and always call the utility company to report fallen power lines.
If electrical circuits and equipment have gotten wet or are in or near water, turn off the power at the main breaker or fuse on the service panel. Do not turn the power back on until electrical equipment has been inspected by a qualified electrician.
Additionally, citizens should continue to follow all warnings about water on roadways. Do not drive vehicles or heavy equipment through water and do not drive around or move barricades. Flooding can weaken roads or cause them to wash out entirely, making driving through flooded areas dangerous.
