  • 2019 Michigan's AmeriCorps Member Celebration

    More than 600 Michigan's AmeriCorps State, VISTA, and National members will come together in Lansing on November 14, 2019 for a day of training, networking, and recognition. The event, hosted by the Michigan Community Service Commission, will help prepare AmeriCorps members for their year of service and celebrate the courage of their commitment.

  • Funds Available For New and Recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps Programs

    Federal funds are available to support new and recompeting Michigan's AmeriCorps programs to start in the fall of 2020 for a 12-month program cycle.

  • MI AmeriCorps Member of the Month - January 2020: Syeda Zohra, Peckham Michigan's AmeriCorps Member of the Month

    JANUARY 2020: Syeda Zohra is no stranger to service, as she was at one time a health educator with UNICEF in rural provinces of India. Syeda was born in India and is a naturalized citizen of the United States. For the last year, she has been serving as an AmeriCorps member in Peckham, Inc.’s Economic Opportunity Coaching Program. Syeda will complete her term of service in March.

  • MI AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month - January 2020: Kiana Wahonya, Flint Urban Safety Corps Michigan's AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month

    JANUARY 2020: Kiana Wahonya has always had a heart for service. She has taught English as a second language to primarily Spanish speakers, mentored young girls at Camp Au Sable, and even spent months in Kenya providing community and economic development support. Kiana is now the AmeriCorps program director for the Flint Urban Safety Corps where she is also the site supervisor for all the AmeriCorps members on her team. 

  • MI AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month - January 2020: Carlotta Prince, AdviseMI Michigan's AmeriCorps Site Supervisor of the Month

    JANUARY 2020: Carlotta Prince is passionate about helping students succeed at Cornerstone Health and Technology High School in Detroit. As a School Counselor and an AdviseMI AmeriCorps Site Supervisor, Carlotta works tirelessly to ensure her students know they can reach their potential and feel supported to explore their post-secondary plans.

  • MI AmeriCorps Alum Spotlight - December 2019: Teachia Turrentine, Success Mentors Michigan's AmeriCorps Alum Spotlight

    DECEMBER 2019: Teachia Turrentine is a huge advocate of AmeriCorps and of service in general. In 2017, she served as a member of the Academic All Stars AmeriCorps program through the Youth Development Commission (YDC) and was part of the Success Mentors team.
