October 7, 2021 - The Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Child Care Licensing Bureau (CCLB), has summarily suspended and issued a notice of intent to revoke the group child care home license of Melissa Givens, located at 16516 Roselawn St., in Detroit.

The complaint investigation that concluded on October 1, 2021, found violations of the Child Care Organizations Act and administrative rules, including but not limited to the following:

  • Appropriate care and supervision
  • Caregiver suitability
  • Proper ratio of caregivers to children in care

Effective October 1, 2021, the summary suspension order prohibits Givens from operating a child care group home at 16516 Roselawn St., in Detroit, or at any other address or location. Accordingly, she may not accept children for care after that date and time. The order also requires the licensee to inform all parents of children in her care that the license has been suspended and that she can no longer provide child care.

It was critical to take emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the children at this group child care home.

Since LARA has summarily suspended the license, an administrative hearing will promptly be scheduled before an administrative law judge with the Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules.
