MPSC Approves Settlement Agreement Authorizing Cloverland Electric Cooperative to Increase Rates by $2 Million

- The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today approved a settlement agreement authorizing Cloverland Electric Cooperative to increase its revenues by $2 million, or approximately 2.47 percent. The utility had requested an increase of $4,598,562, or approximately 5.67 percent.

Under the terms of the settlement, all residential rates from the two legacy territories will be combined into one rate.

Residential customers in Cloverland's Edison Sault legacy territory using 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a month will see an increase of $4.25 on their monthly bill starting in January.

Residential customer in Cloverland's Cloverland legacy territory using 500 kWh a month will see an increase of $1.44 on their monthly bill starting in January.

Today's order solely addresses a portion of the times interest earned ratio (TIER) ratemaking segment of this docket. Issues related to the appropriate ratemaking treatment of pension costs are deferred to Case No. U-17098-R.

The utility, the MPSC staff and the City of Mackinac Island participated in the settlement.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
