On August 1, 2013, Vigil was convicted of one felony count of Health Care Fraud Conspiracy. Vigil was sentenced to incarceration for a period of 22 months, followed by two years of supervised release with terms, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,375,000.00. The conviction was based on Vigil and co-conspirators submitting physical therapy and occupational therapy claims to the Medicare program for services that were not performed.
On December 11, 2013, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Vigil’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony.
