State Fire Marshal and Meridian Township Fire Department Invite Media to Turkey Fryer Safety Demonstration Tuesday, Nov. 26, 10 am., Meridian Township Fire Station 93 (South) 3711 Okemos Road, Okemos, MI; Thanksgiving is Top Day for Cooking Fires

November 25, 2013 - Thanksgiving Day is the leading day for home cooking fires with three times as many fires occurring on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year. Turkey fryers have become an increasingly popular way of cooking that holiday bird. Consumers who choose to use turkey fryers that deep fry a bird in several gallons of hot oil over 350 degrees need to know the fire risk and potential for devastating burns and destruction of property.

State Fire Marshal Rich Miller and Meridian Township Fire Chief Fred Cowper have teamed up to bring you a turkey fryer demonstration designed to educate consumers about the danger and fire risk of turkey fryers when used incorrectly – especially the outdoor gas-fueled fryers that immerse the turkey in hot oil.

Please join us for this live demonstration that will show how fast fire can break out.  Meridian Township fire fighters will be on hand for quick suppression of the fire. Important safety tips for using the fryers correctly will also be discussed and they will talk about the new and safer oil-less fryers that are now available.
