May 28, 2013 - The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has immediately suspended the podiatrist license and physical therapist license of Anthony J. Kirk, D.P.M., P.T., of Grand Rapids based on his conviction in the United States District Court, Western District of Michigan.
On April 4, 2013, Kirk was convicted of one felony count of Health Care Fraud. Kirk was sentenced to imprisonment for a period of six months. Additionally, he was sentenced to supervised release for a period of one year, and ordered to pay an assessment, fine and restitution totaling $80,210.00.
On May 21, 2013, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Kirk's licenses pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional's license upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction.
