Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
January 24, 2013 - The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and the Bureau of Fire Services (BFS) today announced the opening of the 2013 Consumer Fireworks Application and 2013 Low Impact Registration process. Applicants will have until midnight, April 1, 2013 to submit Consumer Fireworks applications. Low Impact registrations can be submitted at any time but must be completed at least 10 days prior to sales.
Applicants will notice changes in the 2013 application process. The Low Impact Registration will now be completed using the same site as the Consumer Application. Applicants will choose the "Type" as either Low Impact Permanent Structure or Low Impact Non-Permanent Structure. Anyone selling both Consumer and Low Impact will have to register each retail sales location individually.
Also new for 2013, applicants will now be able to submit safety fees online. However, applications will be denied for any applicants who have unpaid safety fees or are missing reporting sales (even zero sales) for any calendar quarter from their 2012 Certificate.
When submitting documents for 2013 applications, applicants MUST submit all of the required documents at one time or the application will be denied. Also, the certificate number on each document submitted must be included.
To start the login and application process, go to the Bureau of Fire Services website at www.michigan.gov/bfsand click on the link "Consumer & Low Impact Fireworks Application."
Applicants who have questions about the process may contact the Bureau of Fire Services by calling the BFS main line at 517-241-8847, or 517-373-7441; or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
