WHEREAS, since 1985, Help Eliminate Auto Thefts (H.E.A.T.) has worked alongside Michigan residents and law enforcement professionals by encouraging all to confidentially provide information to authorities about auto theft related crimes; and,
WHEREAS, H.E.A.T.’s toll-free tip line is monitored by the Michigan State Police, Criminal Investigation Section, and they direct tip information to appropriate police agencies throughout the state; and,
WHEREAS, as a result of more than 11,000 calls to H.E.A.T.’s tip line, Michigan law enforcement professionals have recovered more than $60.4 million in stolen property and secured the arrests of more than 3,800 suspects involved in auto theft rings, carjacking incidents and vehicle-related insurance fraud; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we join with law enforcement agencies throughout Michigan to encourage everyone to “turn up the H.E.A.T.” by learning more about this essential community education and vehicle theft prevention program;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the October 16-22, 2016 as Turn Up The H.E.A.T. Week in Michigan.
