WHEREAS, during the summer of 2016, approximately 269,000 Michigan youth, ages 16‑19, are projected to seek employment; and,
WHEREAS, the contributions of local businesses, education institutions, government, and community groups are essential to the process of promoting and developing productive summer opportunities for our youth; and,
WHEREAS, summer youth employment opportunities are offered within many Michigan industries, including agriculture, amusement and recreation services, lodging, camping, retail, and the restaurant industry; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we encourage Michigan employers to offer meaningful, safe, and valuable work and volunteer opportunities to our youth. We also encourage them to recognize that hiring young people, even if only for a summer, is an investment in the future of the Great Lakes State and our nation;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 2016 as Youth Employment Month in Michigan.
