WHEREAS, according to the United State Department of Labor, 70 percent of all jobs in Michigan will require some postsecondary education training beyond high school in 2020;
WHEREAS, according to the Michigan College Access Network, Michigan will create 1.3 million job vacancies between 2008 and 2018 both from new jobs and from job openings due to retirement; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan College Application Week provides dedicated time and space to ensure all high school seniors have the opportunity to apply to college;
WHEREAS, during the week of November 3 – November 7, 2014, all Michigan colleges and universities are encouraged to accept the National Association for College Admission Counseling application fee waiver for those students with a demonstrated financial need in order to ensure that no student is deprived of the opportunity to pursue admission to the institution(s) of their choice due to financial hardship;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 3–7, 2014 as Michigan College Application Week.
