WHEREAS, the liberties, freedom, prosperity, and security Americans are blessed with are protected through the dedication and sacrifices made by our service members, veterans, and their families; and,
WHEREAS, on November 11, 2014 the nation will celebrate and honor those patriots, including Michigan’s nearly 700,000 veterans, who have fought to protect the democratic ideals that are the foundation of our country; and,
WHEREAS, we need to be aware of our veterans’ sacrifices and needs, and to support them as they return home from war and reunite with their families, reintegrate into our society, and reestablish their role as productive members of our state; and,
WHEREAS, the State of Michigan is committed to ensuring that Michigan is the most veteran-friendly state through examples such as the creation of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, which provides the advice and assistance veterans, and their families, need as they transition through the chapters of their lives; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan is home to immediate employment opportunities, world-class colleges, universities and vocation centers, premiere veterans’ homes, and a stellar quality of life; and,
WHEREAS, in the words of John F. Kennedy, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them”; and,
WHEREAS, a great way to thank our veterans for their contributions in defense of our freedom is to ensure that they are respected for their talents and welcomed to learn, work, live, and play in Michigan;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim November 2014 as Veterans Month in Michigan.
