October 7, 2014: Michigan Emergency Management Association Day

WHEREAS, the Michigan Emergency Management Association has been in existence since organized in 1959 as the Civil Defense Director’s Association of Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, the mission of the Michigan Emergency Management Association is to support and enhance emergency management in the State of Michigan by representing emergency management at the local, state and federal level; and,

WHEREAS, the Michigan Emergency Management Association promotes emergency management program standards; encourages sound legislation supporting mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery issues; and develops unity among emergency management professionals; and,

WHEREAS, the Michigan Emergency Management Association is dedicated to the promotion of health, safety, and the protection of lives and property by facilitating a coordinated response and recovery during emergencies and disasters throughout Michigan; and,

WHEREAS, we recognize the value of the members and leadership of the Michigan Emergency Management Association and their efforts to provide for the safety and welfare of Michigan Citizens during emergencies and disasters that may befall our state; and,

WHEREAS, the Michigan Emergency Management Association’s 2014 Fall Conference “Learning through Experience” provides the education and networking opportunities to achieve its mission and purpose;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 7, 2014 as Michigan Emergency Management Association Day.
