October 3, 2014: Michigan Fraternal Day

WHEREAS, for more than a century, fraternal benefit societies throughout the nation have demonstrated their commitment to community enrichment activities and charitable services, as well as the importance of unity and brotherhood; and,

WHEREAS, in Michigan, more than 435,000 citizens serve as members of the Michigan Fraternal Congress and the Michigan Fraternal Insurance Counselors; and,

WHEREAS, these members and other fraternal societies regularly volunteer their time to improve Michigan’s environment and to assist fellow citizens in need; and,

WHEREAS, on this day, we recognize the members of these non-profit organizations for their leadership and commitment to charitable organizations and communities throughout Michigan;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 3, 2014 as Michigan Fraternal Day.
