WHEREAS, Michigan’s spring and summer seasons offer a wide variety of recreational water and outdoor activities for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy; and,
WHEREAS, outdoor activities help combat obesity, substance abuse and youth violence while playing a positive role in education, community wellness and family cohesiveness; and,
WHEREAS, from boating and fishing to camping and hiking, making efforts to be active outdoors boosts economic growth in our state, showcases Michigan’s natural resources, including parks, forests, dunes and lakes and increases physical activity, leading to a healthier, stronger Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we encourage residents of all ages to spend time in Pure Michigan’s vast, rich and great outdoors;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim June 2014 as Michigan Great Outdoors Month.
