WHEREAS, the health and wellness of every worker in Michigan is of utmost importance, and healthy and physically active worksites can stimulate the productivity of Michigan businesses and organizations; and,
WHEREAS, a lack of physical activity within Michigan’s workforce can result in reduced employee morale and productivity, and increases in employee injury, illness and absenteeism; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days a week; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we reiterate the importance of exercise and physical fitness to all citizens in Michigan, and we especially encourage employers and employees to participate in activities throughout the work day in order to support and promote a healthy and physically fit workforce;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim May 2014 as Employee Health and Fitness Month in Michigan.
