WHEREAS, career and technical education is a valuable training opportunity offered in most middle schools, high schools, area career and technical centers, community and technical colleges, and other postsecondary institutions throughout Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, career and technical education provides students with leadership opportunities in various fields, and allows them to experience practical and meaningful application of basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills; and,
WHEREAS, career and technical education serves as a "school-to-careers" connection and is the backbone of a strong and well-educated workforce; and,
WHEREAS, career and technical education provides students with work-based learning experiences and soft-skills training; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the Michigan Department of Education and the Association for Career and Technical Education to encourage both youth and adults in Michigan to learn more about career and technical education, and to recognize the significance of career and technical education to ensuring Michigan students are college- and career-ready;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, proclaim February 2014 as Career and Technical Education Month in Michigan.
