WHEREAS, home to more than 300,000 licensed recreational vehicles (RV),which include motor homes and travel trailers, Michigan’s camping industry remains a major recreational pastime for citizens and visitors alike, and a key part of our state’s overall tourism; and,
WHEREAS, Michigan’s 19 million acres of natural woodlands and numerous bodies of fresh water cultivate the perfect environment for campers and RV enthusiasts to enjoy various recreational activities including, boating, fishing, cycling and nature watching; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, The U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service are dedicated to supporting and maintaining Michigan’s over 380 parks, recreation areas and state forest campgrounds; and,
WHEREAS, during this month, we remind the people of Michigan of the economic and recreational contributions of our state’s camping industry, and we encourage citizens to enjoy all of the camping and RVing activities that Pure Michigan has to offer;
NOW, THEREFORE, I Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim July 2013 as Michigan Camping and RV Month.
