April 1 through April 5, 2013: Graduate Education Week

WHEREAS, Michigan universities remain committed to serving society and the state of Michigan as they provide the tools students need to become our nation's future leaders; and,


WHEREAS, education is vital to the growth and success of students, and our universities recognize the strength and contributions of a diverse student body, and encourage learners of all backgrounds to pursue graduate education; and,


WHEREAS, profound economic and technological changes in our society are reflected rapidly in the structure and nature of today's jobs, thereby placing new responsibilities on our educational system; and,


WHEREAS, student-faculty research partnerships integrate research and graduate education, and graduate educators in master's and doctoral programs across the state are providing the knowledge and analytical skills that will ensure Michigan workers are among the most productive in the world; and,


WHEREAS, from research for new medical treatments to alternative energy, Michigan's graduate students contribute much to our state and nation, and during this week, we encourage Michiganders to recognize the importance and value of graduate education;  


NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5, 2013 as Graduate Education Week in Michigan.
