WHEREAS, NCPW is an opportunity to share tips and information that will help consumers better manage money and debt, stay safe online and protect their privacy and identity by avoiding fraud and scams; and,
WHEREAS, the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) has a staff of professionals dedicated to protecting Michigan consumers by assuring safe and reliable energy, telecommunications and transportation services at reasonable rates and ensuring that companies that it regulates are safe and follow MPSC rules and state law; and,
WHEREAS, the MPSC assists customers with electric, natural gas, telecom and cable inquiries and complaints, and offers a number of consumer protection-related tips; and,
WHEREAS, during this week, we raise awareness of the importance of consumer protection and encourage citizens of all ages throughout the Great Lakes State to become more informed and empowered consumers;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim Sunday, March 3 through Saturday, March 9, 2013 as Consumer Protection Week in Michigan.
