January 2013: Michigan Mentoring Month

WHEREAS, the future of Michigan depends on the success of our state's youth; through insightful guidance and meaningful mentoring, we can help ensure that today's youth realize their own personal value and potential, and instill in them the hope for a brighter tomorrow; and,

WHEREAS, mentoring provides great opportunities for citizens to build relationships and teach core values to our nation's future leaders; and,

WHEREAS, thousands of Michigan youth are waiting for mentors; by devoting their time to a young person, a mentor can improve outcomes for Michigan youth and help prepare them for successful and productive lives; and,

WHEREAS, during this month, we join with the Michigan Community Service Commission to recognize and commend the efforts of mentors and mentoring programs throughout the Great Lakes State; we raise awareness of the importance of mentoring, and encourage all citizens to make a positive impact by becoming a mentor;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Snyder, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim January 2013 as Michigan Mentoring Month.
