LANSING, Mich. – Gov. Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Kevin Weise of Mason to the Michigan Compensation Appellate Commission.

The nine-member commission reviews appeals decisions in cases involving the areas of unemployment insurance benefits, and workers' compensation.

“Kevin has a great deal of experience and I am confident in his ability to serve the best interests of Michigan’s employees, employers and insurers,” Snyder said.

Weise was most recently the chief of staff for Mission Flint. He previously served as deputy general counsel for the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and as a bilateral affairs officer for the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, Liberia. He has more than 27 years of military service, both active and reserves, and 14 years of experience as a practicing attorney. Weise holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Pennsylvania State University, and a law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He will replace Patricia Halm.

Weise will serve a four-year term effective Aug. 14, 2017 and expiring July 31, 2021. His appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
