Governor John Engler announced today that items donated by governors across the nation will go up for bid on Monday in the "Auction for America" sponsored by eBay. Michigan's contribution includes a 1996-1997 Red Wings championship jersey personalized for Governor Engler and a Michigan State University hockey stick autographed by Coach Ron Mason.
"I urge every Michigan citizen to donate and to bid on items in this auction," said Governor Engler. "The 'Auction for America' truly shows the spirit of America – the goodness and charity that makes our nation a beacon of hope for the world."
Launched on September 17th by New York Governor George Pataki and New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, "Auction for America" is eBay's initiative to allow people from around the world to buy and sell goods online to raise money for the victims of the September 11th attacks. The goal is to raise $100 million in 100 days.
All fees are waived and all of the proceeds will go to charity, including the September 11th Fund and the Twin Towers Fund.
