Governor John Engler today announced the appointment of George Boersma as acting director of the newly-created Department of Information Technology, effective Oct. 15.
"George Boersma has held the reigns of Michigans information technology for years, and Im pleased to name him the acting director of this new department charged with unifying all information technology management functions. His proven leadership skills will continue to benefit the citizens of Michigan in this new role."
Boersma, of Lansing, has been the chief information officer for the state of Michigan and deputy director of the Department of Management and Budget since 1996. Previously, he served as state purchasing director, where he was responsible for overseeing the states central purchasing activities. He also has 27 years of private sector experience, 22 of those with Michigan National Bank.
Boersma earned a bachelor of science degree from Calvin College and is active in numerous professional and civic organizations.
