Governor Engler announced today that the American
Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) awarded Michigan an "A"
for holding down government spending. Only four other states New
Hampshire, Nevada, South Dakota and Florida earned the top grade for
keeping spending at low levels compared to other states.
"Good policy and good government produce good grades," said
Governor Engler. "The result is good news for the people of Michigan.
"Michigan earns an A, a marked improvement from 1990," notes
the ALEC National Report Card on State Fiscal Policy. The complete report
is available at the ALEC web page, alec.org.
