Engler: Michigan's Unemployment Rate Remains Below National Rate for 66th Consecutive Month. September Jobless Rate Drops to 3.7 percent

Governor John Engler today announced that Michigan's unemployment rate in September dropped one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.7 percent compared to August's rate of 3.8 percent.

"Michigan's jobless rate has been below the national rate for the 66th consecutive month, an incredible track record," said Governor John Engler. "And, over the past year, Michigan has added 37,000 payroll jobs."

Michigan's September jobless rate was two-tenths of a percentage point below the U.S. rate of 3.9 percent. It also marked the 19th consecutive month that Michigan's jobless rate has stayed below 4 percent.
