Technology, Management and Budget
Michelle Lange was named acting director of the Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in October 2021. In this role, Lange sets the strategic direction for the agency and ensures the timely delivery of services and IT support to nearly 50,000 state employees and 10 million Michigan residents. With an annual budget of $1.6 billion, DTMB employs 3,000 staff in IT, procurement, cybersecurity, facilities administration, and other business services.
Lange has extensive experience in government operations and a passion for creating opportunities for all employees to thrive. Prior to the appointment of acting director, she held the role of DTMB chief deputy director. Additionally, she served as the chief of staff to the DTMB director and as the department legislative liaison. Lange also worked for Gov. Whitmer under the chief operating officer, was deputy director of legislative affairs for Gov. Rick Snyder, and served as a judge on the Michigan Tax Tribunal. Outside of her work in the executive branch, she spent 12 years as a staff member in the Michigan Senate.
Lange has both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University.
