Each specialist is responsible for the mentoring and training of summer interpretive staff and the evaluation of programs and services offered at assigned park sites to assure the overall quality of the program. The Explorer Specialist is assigned seven to 12 parks, and each park is visited at least once every 14 days.
The Explorer Specialist is responsible for mentoring and coaching their assigned Explorer Guides on interpretive techniques, program marketing and answering resource-related questions and providing guidance and information on DNR objectives. They will regularly develop, implement and evaluate interpretive programs, monitor work performed by temporary or seasonal staff and present effective and engaging interpretive-educational programs.
Specialists will be flexible and organized and have the skills necessary to maintain a timely and accurate flow of reports. Extensive travel within a region of the state is required.
