    Forest Resources Land Acquisition
    Montmorency County, Montmorency Township
    The Elk Forest at Black River Forest Legacy Program Acquisition

    This land is adjacent to the Pigeon River Country State Forest. Acquisition of this property will protect lands within the core elk range. It will also ensure that the property is sustainably managed as a working forest in perpetuity, and increase public access to forest and water resources for outdoor recreation.

    This 596.90-acre purchase is expected to be completed by January 31, 2020 and will be dedicated as part of the Pigeon River Country Management Unit.

    Pigeon River Country Management Unit

    This land is located within the Pigeon River Country State Forest. Acquisition of this property will protect lands in the heart of Michigan’s elk range. It will consolidate state ownership within the Pigeon River Country State Forest, ensure that the property is sustainably managed as a working forest in perpetuity, and provide increased wildlife habitat, public recreation opportunities and forest management.

    This 120-acre purchase is expected to be completed by January 31, 2020 and will be dedicated as part of the Pigeon River Country Management Unit.

    Sale of Surplus DNR-Managed Land
    Alpena County, Alpena Township

    The parcels are not adjacent to other state-owned land and are surrounded by private ownership.  The lands will be disposed of as surplus at auction.
    The 200-acre sale is expected to be completed by January 31, 2020 and proceeds from the sale will be deposited into the Land Exchange Facilitation Fund (LEFF).
