The Michigan DNR is implementing new timber cruising methods for timber sale preparation and contracting beginning in fall 2020. A timber cruise is a forest survey conducted to locate and estimate the quantity of timber on a given area according to species, size, quality and other characteristics.
Training sessions, offered in a combination of web-based classroom education and a possible in-person field session, will be provided in the new cruise methods. These trainings will be required for all DNR-certified timber sale preparation contractors and are suggested for procurement foresters purchasing DNR timber sale contracts.
