Spotted Knapweed - Invasive

Meeting location: 42.008400, -86.549394.

Volunteers are needed to help keep this restored area pristine by hand pulling spotted knapweed and sweet clover. We will be working off trails so please plan to wear sturdy shoes, long sleeves and pants. We’ll be working in the open sun so please also plan to bring a hat and plenty of water. Meet at the beach parking lot at the end of Grand Mere Rd. Grand Mere Rd heads west from the intersection of I-94 and John Beers Rd. Stay to the left along this road and the parking lot is at the end of the road.

Guest Speaker: We will be joined by Explorer Guide Caroline from Van Buren State Park who, as a student a few years ago, did a science project on spotted knapweed in the area we will be pulling. She will talk about her project and let us know how this invasive has done in this area since then.

Please register using the volunteer registration form or via email to freih@michigan.gov. Additional information is available via the DNR Volunteer Stewardship webpage. For more information about invasive species, please visit michigan.gov/invasives.
