Education Eligibility

A school-based evaluation to assess for autism spectrum disorder is a complex process. Data must be gathered through a variety of methods and across multiple domains in order to represent the entire child. Once data has been gathered by members of the multidisciplinary evaluation team, the information is analyzed and compared to the definition of autism spectrum disorder set forth in the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education to determine if criteria have been met. The understanding of the evaluation process and training of its various components is essential to make eligibility recommendations that are accurate and lead to effective interventions, supports, and services.
